something new: me!

Writing again for the Freedom to Marry blog carnival, today’s the day I knew I’d have something to say because today I turn 29. As Lee was falling asleep last night, she very kindly pointed out that she always thinks of me as being much older than that! I’ve always looked older than I am, though, so I don’t mind. We both pass for 35 or so, and I think that’s about right.

I started today by getting up way early (5:30, yeesh!) because I had to be at work early. I did 30 minutes with my light therapy magic lamp going while I worked on the Wii Fit, after which I was down 2.6 pounds from last evening’s weigh in though I assume that’s basically daily settling. 30 minutes was too long for me to fit into my mornings now, but I should be fine if I do 15-20 minutes of yoga in the morning and then some of the other exercise games in the evening.

The Wii Fit makes me get over my perfectionism. It’s always going to give me peppy little shaming speeches about how I can work harder to keep my pelvis from being displaced and it will never mean anything because my pelvis is angled, my spine can’t straighten. So all I’m doing is trying to stretch and do the best I can, and if I can sometimes outscore Lee that’s just a bonus!

This is a year when I want to stretch myself in a lot of ways. I’m learning Spanish because I’ve felt intellectually stunted lately. I’m doing yoga at home because I haven’t been good about going to classes (and paying for them!) or taking bellydance anymore. And, we hope, I’m going to become a mother, which means all of my planning and goals may end up being totally thrown off course. And I’m okay with that! I’m delighted.

The other thing Lee said last night, before she told me I seem old, was that she feels a certain urgency about parenting, that she’s ready to go now. We can’t rush it, but we can keep on pushing. And having that option is certainly new!
